PROJECT MANAGER (TECHNICAL)
Our ideal candidate comes from a design engineering background and has experience in working in small/medium sized companies. We’d welcome hearing from candidates who have been engineers and looking for their first formal project management role as well as experienced project managers who are looking to continue their careers managing a variety of engineering projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment where actively driving the project to be delivered on time and in budget is key. Our project managers work closely with the project team and roll up their sleeves to join in with the engineering etc. when necessary. This role would suit someone who is looking to rise to project management challenges but still would like some engineering involvement.

Role: Project Manager (Technical)

Reports to: Operations Manager

Responsible for: Delivering a project on time and in budget, providing technical input as required

Duties:
  • Technical
    • Provide (design engineering) technical input on quotes and projects as required
  • People
    • Communication within project team, with the customer & with other Amfax departments
    • Customer liaison – understanding needs, issues & managing expectations
    • Work closely with the account manager
    • Conduct regular project reviews with key personnel
  • Process
    • Owning the project from start to end – accountable to Amfax & the customer
    • Conducting research: understanding cost, key dates, skills & knowledge required
    • Sufficient understanding of the project – customer needs, manufacturing requirements etc.
    • Managing costs / budgets throughout the project
    • Have an overview of task progress
    • Formal planning & scheduling tasks & resources in good time (including sufficient notice to other internal depts such as Manufacturing)
    • Documentation management: project file updated, controlled issue of drawings etc.
    • Use central project planner throughout life of project
    • Manage change – task priorities & resource reassignment (when necessary)
  • System
    • Using the project management system correctly
    • Ensure timely set up of new projects
    • Track hour/cost consumption
    • Arrange for amendment to tasks / budget if required

Qualifications:
  • Relevant formal engineering design qualification
  • Project Management qualification preferable but not essential
  • Possess all requirements for successfully meeting formal Security Check (SC) criteria

​​Senior Electrical and Electronic Design Engineer
Role: Senior Electrical and Electronic Design Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Responsible for:
Conceptual design and flow-down of work packages and successful product realisation.  Providing technical support & training to less senior EE engineers.

Main Tasks:
  • Generate electrical / electronic design specifications for team members
  • Prepare cost estimates for quotes
  • Acting in the capacity of a lead technical engineer on projects (reporting to PM), this will include generating electrical / electronic design specifications for team members
  • Providing accurate work status information to project manager
  • Communicate with customers and other Amfax project engineers to clarify requirements / meet design specifications 
  • Identify and support timely development of ‘fit for purpose’ electrical drawings & electronic documentation 
  • Research & source specific items when required
  • Provide technical guidance to colleague and customers when required
  • Design PCBs when necessary
  • Sign off the manufacturing drawing pack (readiness to build)
  • Work closely with manufacturing dept. to inform and answer queries during assembly / test stages
  • Efficiently and accurately check wiring schedule & schematic information produced by colleagues
  • General management & upkeep of drawings
  • Attend Factory and/or Site Acceptance Testing with customer when required
  • Running and supervising testing
  • Generate product reference documentation / handbooks when required
  • Keep up to date on industry / external design standards

Essential Qualifications / Experience:
  • Formal engineering qualification in electronic / electrical design
  • Min. 5 years industry related experience in electrical engineering at design / implementation level
  • Possess all requirements for successfully meeting formal Security Check (SC) criteria
  • Experience of designing test equipment
  • Experience of designing analogue and digital interface circuits

Desirable Qualifications / Experience:
  • 18th Edition an advantage
  • Experience in Power Engineering an advantage
  • Experience with National Instruments hardware/software an advantage

Senior Production Wire Person
Reports to: Manufacturing Manager 

Responsible for: Assembly / wiring of medium to high complexity production items

Main Tasks:
  • Manufacture of assemblies, fixtures & systems
  • Manufacture cable looms
  • Wire wrap
  • To work from wiring schedules 
  • Manufacture of assemblies, fixtures & systems
  • Assembly of mains distribution units
  • Support, guide and advise less experienced colleagues as required  

Other Tasks:
  • Assembly of PCBs (desirable but not essential)

Attributes:
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, wiring schedules and circuit diagrams
  • Able to solder to a consistently high standard
  • Familiar with a variety of mil spec connectors, cable production techniques
  • Able to work to IPC 620 Class 3 
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Tidy, methodical and accurate
  • Own standard wiring tools (specialized tools will be supplied)
  • Able to work independently
  • Good team player
  • Willing to provide on-site support at customer premises when required
  • ESD awareness

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience in similar work essential (ideally within the Defense / Aerospace sector)
  • IPC 620 certified
  • Demonstrated capability by skills test
  • Full driving license
  • Possess all requirements for successfully meeting formal Security Check (SC) criteria

Production Wire Person
​Reports to: Senior Manufacturing Supervisor

Responsible for: Producing looms/cable assemblies & test equipment items from drawings & kits to the required build standards and agreed timeframes.

Main Tasks:
  • Production of wiring looms/cable assemblies: comfortable with crimping, soldering, lacing & splicing to aerospace standards
  • Wiring of cabinets and fixtures

Other Tasks:
  • Assembly of PCBs (desirable but not essential)

Attributes:
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, wiring schedules and circuit diagrams
  • Able to solder to a consistently high standard
  • Familiar with a variety of mil spec connectors, cable production techniques
  • Able to work to IPC 620 Class 3
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Tidy, methodical and accurate

Main Tasks (Prototype and Production):
  • Production of wiring looms/cable assemblies: comfortable with crimping, soldering, lacing & splicing to aerospace standards
  • Wiring of cabinets and fixtures

Other Tasks:
  • Assembly of PCBs (desirable but not essential)

Attributes:
  • Extensive knowledge of cable types, connectors, cable assembly techniques and applications
  • Able to liaise with in-house engineers with technical queries and provide build solutions for prototype assemblies
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, wiring schedules and circuit diagrams
  • Able to solder to a consistently high standard
  • Familiar with a variety of mil spec connectors, cable production techniques
  • Able to work to IPC 620 Class 3
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Tidy, methodical and accurate
