PrecisionVision

flatbed enlarged With the introduction of the PrecisionVision, AmFax unveils its first flatbed scanner style Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) system.

PrecisionVision is a flexible system designed to accept a variety of devices for surface defect, dimensional accuracy and manufacturing process inspection. Typical UUT's include printed circuit boards, machined or etched components, glass substrates and high density connectors.

Interchangeable fixturing provides for easy UUT type changeover and double sided inspection of devices over a total scan area of up to 360 by 230 mm in its standard from.  Wider scan area solutions can be implemented upon request, with 3000 x 4000 mm achievable.

Flexibility is inherent in the PrecisionVision design. A modular approach to fixturing, lighting and inspection functionality provides a system that can be easily adapted to suit a wide variety of applications.

The fast changeover of UUT types provides a reliable and scalable system for both high & low volume applications.

Motion

The PrecisionVision uses a non-contact, dual axis linear stage system capable of a resolution of <2.5 micron. The fully programmable scan pattern provides the ability to inspect any array of UUT's of single or multiple types simultaneously. The UUT's are mounted in fixed and tooled locations, with camera(s), lighting and scanning technology (The Pod) mounted in any aspect about the target. Typically above or below, but the unique magnetic, non-contact technology enables us to mount the hardware in any location or aspect required.

Multiple, independently controlled Pods can provide the ability to scan very complex structures from many angles simultaneously. Built-in anti-collision capability ensures programming personnel cannot damage the system if certain development parameters are adhered to.

Lighting

Various lighting techniques can be implemented; ring lighting, on axis lighting, spot lighting etc. The method or methods best suited to revealing the intended defect or required by the measurement function/technique will be implemented. The capability to modify the lighting for future inspection requirements is maintained by the modular hardware design.

User Interface

An easy and intuitive graphical user interface based on your selected built-in inspection parameters provides technician level personnel the ability to generate, test and save new test patterns. Implementation of additional or more complex functions from the AmFax library can be provided at any time with specialist development to suit your needs available on request.

Image Acquisition

The emergence of camera technology to suit more and more complex requirements enables the PrecisionVision to remain at the forefront of inspection capability. Again the modular build standard allows us to implement the camera or cameras that are best suited to the application. For example the standard 1280 x 1030 10 Bit Greyscale camera with a resolution down to 3.5 micron per pixel enables the system to handle even the smallest of devices. Alternatively, simple Ethernet based, relatively low resolution cameras can be implemented to provide a lower cost option.

Software

Based on National Instruments' Vision, AmFax can deliver off the shelf, automated inspection and measurement functions and the capability to develop custom algorithms to suit your specific requirements. We have extensive experience in algorithm development for component recognition & location, scratch detection, barcode scanning, OCR and quality inspection.

The PrecisionVision is truly a modular solution for automated optical inspection; both the hardware and the software are provided as scalable solutions to meet your current requirements and adaptable to as yet unknown future requirements without significant cost impact.
